My great Explanation writing

                                    Explanation writing 

  This week for writing we have been writing about how technology work.Here is my Explanation writing what do you think about my writing and do you think that I can Change something to make my  Explanation writing a bit better ?





                                            Emperors clothing 
Our challenge was that all of our clothes were lost and all we could find was 12 sheets of new of new paper and 10 meters of tape and a pair of scissors  so we had to make some clothes of all of the  materials provided. We talk about what formal clothes are we all were a bit confused about what  formal clothes were but then we started thinking and we came up with some ideas. We thought that  formal clothes are. 

Firstly we decided to make a jacket first for the jacket we started to lay the news paper out in the shape of a top secondly we add more new paper on the sides of the top to make it into a long sleeve top lastly we we coped the long sleeve top to the  other side and taped them together. 

After that Elise had the idea to make some pants the first thing we did  was lay the new paper in the shape of pants and secondly we copied  it to the other side lastly we taped it all together.  

lastly we mad hats they were easy to make all we had to do was get a bit of newspaper and tap it around my head now all of our  Emperors Clothing is done.

The end of winter sport

The end of winter sport 

It has sadly come to the end of winter sport. This season for winter sport I played my first year of rugby and my first time playing rugby ever. I surprised myself because I really enjoyed it and I had so much fun this season.I think that our team play really well together and that we all got along and that we all played as a team. overall our season has gone good  I am so happy that I had participated in winter sport. I think my fitness level has got better because I have been running around more this term because of  rugby and that we are running around the rugby pitch so much and I think my fitness has improved because of this.

Math Boards

                               Math Boards

This term in Tumu hub for math's we have been making Math Boards if you are wondering what a Math Board is it is a way that can help you to figure out  a question our teacher told our class all about it when they came back for a course with Jo Boaler.  Jo Boaler has a web site called you-cubed it is all about having a good mind set I think that math's board has helped me a lot. On the math's board we had to figure the question by giving a visual solution, solving it numerically and creating a word problem and solving it another way. Here is one of my most recent math board.

Whats is Renewable energy?

What is Renewable energy?
This term in reading we have been reading about the environment. I have enjoyed reading lots of different books and reading out loud. I think that I have learnt lots from the start of the term and I have enjoyed going to all my work shops.


I know better now not to use fossils fuels and start using Renewable energy like wind mils and solar powered energy. For reading this week, my group read a book called living in a Sustainable way.

kindness changes everything

PBL Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was How can we build community through our actions?First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and we came up with a couple of ideas such as rubbish clean up and raising money for kids can but after a few weeks we wanted to came up with a new Idea because a rubbish clean up would be to had to organising . We did not like the raising money for kids can because we wanted our idea to be free for our community so we decide to make kindness cads that we would give out for free.

How did our action build a sense of community in the school by showing every one kindness pays it forward.

For our final product our group made kindness cards with lollies stapled to it. We decided that we were going to give them out to people that have shown kindness .

I contributed by helping our team decide on our idea and spouting our team also making our idea happen and by buying the thing that we need.
   
I think the PBL might impact on others by showing other people that kindness always pays back and that showing kindness is the right thing to do.

What I learned about working with others was hard when we did not get along but I think  that it was easier to work as a team than by myself.

Buy it now before they all run out or spin out

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance M&Ms for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because I felt like it was a easier to make the table because all the table was rolled up newspaper for the legs and a flat  piece of newspaper for the top.In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.


Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made a Disappearing color wheel it was really fun making the color spinner her is a pitcher 



Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was the mark day but it was really hard to make the spinner at the start because the video that we watched it used  string for the handles  but that did not work with our spinner the next materials we tried was elastic and that worked but the elastic was to much money so then we thought about rubber bands because we had lot of them and they worked so that was what we made the handles out of and it sinned relay well.
 
Next time I would make more because we did not realized that we were going to sell that many.

our Project Based Learning

our Project Based Learning

This term our Project Based Learning has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas like traditions what they eat there religions there celebrations the holidays they celebrate like Easter Christmas and the stories they tell . Culture is what we do in the countries that’s why we have different Cultural stories Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read Battle of the mountains I have written my own legend I retold the legend of Maui and the sun in my own words.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organizing the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.


Reflection: 
For our production I contributed by making a big book for the narrator 

I think the show might impact on others by how much hard work we put in to it 

What I learned about working with others was that every idea counts
